Description

Baern Balderk is an older dwarf (192 years old), bald, but with a magnificent blond beard. Baern's beard is finely braided and woven with gems, ribbons, and religious iconography.

Baern spent most of his life in the service of Moradin as a temple priest in his home of Mithral Hall. After the death of his wife, Baern was sent on a quest to spread the light of Moradin. While making his way to Oakhurst in order to rescue the Hucrele adult children, Baern discovered himself imbued with the power to channel Moradin's divinity into fire, light, and other blessings.

Baern wields no weapon. He carries a shield emblazoned with the symbol of Moradin, and wears Red Dragon Scale Mail discovered in the Sunless Citadel. His aunt Riika has the helmet.

Baern's Divine Deeds

Baern has had many opportunities to wield Moradin's power to remarkable effect.

After Baern's cousin Drustan Green was slain by a raiding party of trolls and winter wolves, Baern kept the body magically preserved at the moment of death. In Blassingdale, Baern performed a ritual above his ability, putting his own mortality at risk in order to bring Drustan back to life. Though exhausted by the ritual, Bearn was successful.

In the lost stronghold of Khrudrukar, the group discovered the body of the legendary smithy Durgeddin. An orcish curse prevented the body from rotting, and prevented Durgeddin's soul from passing into the afterlife. After encountering the ghost of the dwarven wizard Arundil, Baern performed a ritual to cleanse the site of the curse. In doing so, he sent both dwarves peacefully to Mordain's halls.
