Dwarf (Mountain Dwarf) Wizard
Background: Archaeologist
Arcane Tradition: School of Divination
Description
Drustan Green (formally Drustan Delvinarr) is a dwarven archaeologist, explorer, and wizard. He was born to Vistra and Mornis Delvinarr, one of the first children to come of the reclaimed settlement of Gauntlgrym. On the eve of his 50th birthday, Drustan was exiled from his home and clan.
Drustan is more skilled in exploration, academia, and archaeology than in the arcane arts. Often he manifests his magic by calling forth power from some old artifact or relic, or even from the history of a ruin he is exploring.
Drustan's constant companion is his familiar, Anga. Following an old map he had been given by Uncle Falderk, Drustan came to an ancient, seemingly abandoned dryad grove. Only the spirit of a dryad named Anga remained, trapped within the rotting trees. Drustan freed Anga, and since then she has stayed by his side, often in the form of a bird.
Exile from Gauntlgrym and Clan Delvinarr
On the eve of his 50th birthday, Drustan went delving in the mines and dungeons below Gauntlgrym with Uncle Falderk. There, they discovered a secret second tomb to Grandma Lyraveth. At the center stood a beautiful marble statue of Gramma Lyra. All around, the walls were carved with verse, a common practice for dwarven tombs. But the walls had been greatly damaged, cracked and gouged by the blows of a hammer.
Drustan and Falderk could read only three parts of the verse. The first described Adric at the end of a great battle, in mourning over the death of his first wife Sigrun. Someone, or something, appeared to Adric and offered him a deal: seven powerful daughters to deliver to Adric victory over his foes, treasure for his coffers, and a family to fill the halls of every mountain. The price would be the death of Adric’s true love.
The next readable verses listed the deeds of each of Adric’s daughters: conquering of enemies, crafting of fortunes, alliances and negotiations that strengthened the family. Yet after each deed, the verse asked, “Was this worth the price?”
The final readable verse described the death of Lyraveth Amberhelm. It described her life as “paid” to the deal-maker. And yet the verse said that Gramma Lyra’s death was not the only price paid. It seemed as if the deal-maker would take her legacy too. Finally, the verses were signed with a familiar name carved in the stone: Adric Amberhelm.
Though Uncle Falderk urged him not to, Drustan told his parents about the discovery. The next day, he was met by the priest Delg Balderk, and excommunicated from his clan and home. No explanation was given.
Death and Limbo
When Drustan was killed by a raiding party of trolls and winter wolves, his soul wound up lost in Winter's Hall, the divine realm of the ice goddess Auril. Drustan's soul was rescued by the divine power of Baern Balderk. However, Drustan now realizes even his soul has been exiled from Moradin's divine halls of Erackinor.
